Reiki (ray-key) is a Japanese technique that relieves stress and enhances your body’s ability to heal itself. It was developed in Japan by Mikao Usui more than 100 years ago.
Rei means "universal." Ki means "life force." Ki is the non-physical energy that animates every living thing. This energy flows through and around us. When it flows freely, we are more likely to be healthy in mind, body, and spirit. If it becomes blocked, we may experience less vitality, lower quality of life, and even become ill.
Just as acupuncturists are trained to remove blocked energy with needles, Reiki practitioners are trained to remove blocks with their hands. Practitioners channel Reiki through their hands to facilitate healing and promote balance within a person's energy system.
Several studies have explored Reiki's effects on relaxation and stress reduction. A study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that Reiki sessions significantly reduced heart rate and blood pressure, indicating a relaxation response to the treatment.
The deep relaxation triggered by Reiki shifts the autonomic nervous system from the sympathetic to the parasympathetic state. This is the state in which your body can heal itself. That's the most important thing to understand about Reiki. It helps your body heal itself.
Reiki is in use in more than 800 hospitals in the U.S. A study published in the Journal of Cancer Survivorship showed that Reiki reduced anxiety and improved overall well-being in cancer survivors.
Reiki offers a range of potential benefits. Many report experiencing increased energy levels, improved sleep quality, and a greater sense of emotional well-being. The practice also enhances focus and clarity, making it beneficial for those dealing with mental fatigue or overwhelming thoughts.
Countless individuals have experienced Reiki's profound benefits firsthand. How about you?

For many years, I was a medical journalist. I covered health and medical breakthroughs.
Through this work, I had the opportunity to talk with many of the country's best scientists, researchers, and doctors.
I also talked to many patients.
Whenever I would interview someone struggling to be well, to find the right doctor, drug, or diagnosis, I would walk out of the hospital thinking, I wish I could help that person.
As a television producer, I had nothing to offer. As a reiki master, I do.
I can channel Reiki. I can help by supporting people through challenging medical endeavors. I find that both fulfilling and valuable.
As a medical news producer, I sought the most qualified doctors and scientists for my stories. I have taken the same approach to learning reiki, seeking training with highly qualified masters with lineages as close as possible to the originator of Reiki in Japan, Mikao Usui.
I found Reiki while searching for a way to help my highly anxious dog. When I learned I had to be a human reiki practitioner before I could learn animal reiki, I signed up for a class … and just kept going. I'm now a certified 6th generation Reiki Master and an Animal Reiki Practitioner.
I received my first Reiki Master training at the John Harvey Gray Center for Reiki Healing. John Harvey Gray was the third master trained by Hawayo Takata, the woman who brought Reiki to America from Japan. Mrs. Takata was trained by Dr. Hayashi, who was trained by Mako Usui. I was trained by Lourdes Gray, who was trained by John Gray.
Usui Shiki Ryoho
I also hold a Reiki Master Teacher certification in Usui Holy Fire III. I was trained by William Rand, the founder of the International Center for Reiki Training and a 5th generation Master in 4 lineages.
Usui Holy Fire III Reiki Ryoho
My Animal Reiki Certificate is from the International Center for Reiki Healing. My teacher is Colleen Benelli.
Additional certifications: Health Coach / Institute of Health Coaching, Life Coach / International Federation of Coaching, Human Potential Coach / Human Potential Institute, Hypnotherapist / National Guild of Hypnotists.
